When the weather gets colder the biggest question, we get is…Can I have my roof installed in the winter or when it is cold? The short answer to that is YES, you can! As long as the weather conditions permit, we can install your new roof in the winter. Truth be told, in order for your shingles to seal all that is needed is some sunshine. Sunshine will heat up those shingles enough to seal. We have installed hundreds of roofs during the winter! Snow, wind and rain is pretty much all that prevents us from installing a new roof in the wintertime. We would recommend that you call a reputable roofer to ensure that your roof is installed properly. Experienced roofers even have tricks to installing a roof in the winter, such as spreading the bundles out on the roof before installing them to let the sun hit them and “heat them up”. Whichever roofing contractor you choose, make sure to ask them the right questions about your roof installation process and make sure that they explain everything to you in detail, so you are aware of the process.
One thing to know is that EPDM (rubber roofing) does have some pretty strong temperature requirements for installation due to the adhesives that are needed to bond the roofing to the roof deck. If you are wanting to have an EPDM rubber roof installed, it would be best to wait until the temperatures are more favorable or you could be left with a roofing system that does not seal and ends up failing early. Your roofing contractor should be able to review your situation as well as the weather conditions in your area and determine when the best time would be to complete your EPDM rubber roof installation.
